Jean Weatherwax

Jean leads the engineering efforts at Renegade Partners as the Head of Technology, where she leverages over a decade of software engineering experience to support the investment team's technical initiatives and due diligence processes. Currently exploring co-founding her own stealth startup, Jean brings a unique perspective that combines hands-on operational expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset to help evaluate and support early-stage investment opportunities.

As Engineering Lead at First Round Capital for 3+ years, Jean built and led a team of engineers developing platforms and tools that enabled the investment team to excel at early-stage investing. Her technical scope spans full-stack applications, native and multiplatform mobile development, DevOps infrastructure, and AI/machine learning capabilities, with a particular focus on the unique challenges facing early-stage startups.

Jean's technical foundation began in hardware, with a background in electrical engineering and R&D roles across biomedical, aerospace, and computer hardware industries. A self-taught software engineer with deep expertise in AI/ML, she has also given back to the community by teaching coding bootcamps at General Assembly, helping others transition into technology careers.

A Marshall Scholar, Jean earned dual Master's degrees from Imperial College London (Analogue and Digital Integrated Circuit Design) and University College London (Space Science & Engineering). She is also a Goldwater Scholar and NASA MUST Scholar. Beyond her professional pursuits, Jean is an avid outdoor sports enthusiast and voracious reader with interests spanning many subjects
